How to be polite is important to us British. The British, as a rule, go out of our way to maintain polite English conversation, even when we are complaining. Itโs about maintaining the high moral ground and keep up your manners. We expect people to behave in a decent and mannered way, and we notice when people are not conforming to the expected standard of polite interaction.

Looking back at this podcast, I worried I was covering an English topic that was only useful for people who were in trouble with the legal system! Although that was not my intention at all. I was reading a story about a miscarriage of justice here in the UK, and the actual issue was how errors in computer software ruined the lives of innocent people. I thought you might be interested in the English vocabulary used as legalese is a strange thing and worth exploring.

Maybe it is the plunge in temperature that made me think about todayโs colour, or maybe the wonderful flowers that have coloured my garden. The result is an English conversation practice podcast that takes a thorough analysis into the many types of a single colour. For what seems the briefest of moments, the UK went back to almost normal at the start of December. The government relaxed lock-downs, people went shopping and could meet up with friends and family, even socialise and go to the pub. However, all that has stopped now. So let's turn this into a positive English language lesson where we can practice speaking English.

When thinking about a topic for a new English lesson I often listen to what my friends are talking about or maybe my children and sometimes I seek our ideas from the current UK news? Itโs important to me I find something contemporary, something that native English speakers are talking about today, using everyday English. Because the best content for a new English language learner to learn how to speak English fluently, is to listen to and use English thatโs being spoken right now my millions of British people.

If you are learning to how to speak English fluently you need to listen to lots and lots of everyday English being spoken by a native English speaker. Finding lots of interesting English audio to help you practice listening to English and understanding English is harder than you would imagine.
