Transcript: A Year Of Language Learning Success-Thanking Our Listeners

hi there, and Merry Christmas to you.

I hope that you are having a great festive season, whether you celebrate Christmas or not. Today I'm going to talk about Adept English and producing podcasts over the last year for you, our English language learners. I'm just going to show you something. I hope you like my reindeer earrings for this festive podcast.

Hello, I’m Hilary, and you’re listening to Adept English. We will help you to speak English fluently. All you have to do is listen. So start listening now and find out how it works.

We really appreciate your feedback!

I am sure it's been a very busy year for you and it certainly has been for us at Adept English. But rather than focus on the big things I was thinking about, ....about our podcast and the way that it reaches into people's lives.

We know this because you email us and you tell us, or you leave us feedback online. And we love it when you do that!

So I hope this year that while you were listening to one of our podcasts and perhaps exercising, we might have made you smile or maybe you were enjoying your morning coffee, listening to Adept English, and you heard something that really had you interested.

We're proud of how our podcast helps people all across the world to learn the English language, which is not an easy thing to do. We help you improve your fluency and learn to speak English in a way that's natural and automatic.

Has Adept English made you smile?

So, if we're making you smile and we're making you think about interesting things while you're learning English, then all the better! If we have your ears because you're learning English, it may as well be something amusing or interesting or important at the same time, the materials that you listen to.

And it's a privilege to have your ears. It's a privilege to have you as our audience. It's been so encouraging this year, this year 2022, to hear so much from our listeners, to get so much feedback.

We get lovely feedback from you telling us how much your lives have been changed by listening to Adept English.

Adept English is helping people across the world!

Sometimes people tell us that they've been successful in going for a job where English is part of what's needed, English is a needed skill. They've been successful, they've got the job. Sometimes people email us and tell us that Adept English has helped them pass an English speaking exam.

And often we just receive emails or comments telling us that you've been trying to learn English for years, without a lot of success and then all of a sudden you've found Adept English, you've been listening to us for a number of months and whoops, your English has started to improve!

We love receiving these emails. It's inspiring for us and it's rewarding for us to know that we're having this effect. So if you have an experience like that, then be sure to let us know. And sometimes we do give a 'shout-out' to people on the podcast as well, so we're always open to suggestions for podcast topics, if you have any.

Even where there are political restrictions.....

We also get emails and feedback sometimes from people who are living under political restrictions of one sort or another. And from people who are having to cope in situations where their country's laws make their lives intolerable.

I think it's great testimony to the human spirit, this. People are in some terrible situations across the world with their freedoms being restricted in one way or another. They're often women too in these situations.

But what's amazing, they're still learning English while this is going on. They're still learning English with us , and it's a privilege to help you.

Learning English can be empowering

As I always say, it's not that I believe in a world where everyone just speaks English. I don't want that at all. But rather that being able to speak English can be empowering for some people. That verb 'to empower', E M P O W E R - it means 'to give someone power'.

And rightly or wrongly in the world, it's often the case that if someone can speak English, they are empowered by that.

This skill, this ability to speak English, it gives you access to things that you wouldn't otherwise be able to see.

And sometimes it gives people much more power than they had before, gives them the ability to move countries or to get important jobs or to have a voice where they wouldn't otherwise. So of course, we're very happy to help with all of this.

Thankyou to all our listeners

So today I'm thanking all our loyal listeners and our subscribers for your ongoing support. I'm grateful to have you here with us. And as we approach the end of 2022, let's just take a moment to reflect on our progress for the year.

Listening Lessons

Video podcasts - a big change for us!

One major change for Adept English this year has been putting out video podcasts. If you've not watched us on YouTube or Spotify, then do have a look.

And video podcast? Well, it's been a learning curve for me and for Andrew as well.

I'm not someone who naturally wants to be on video. I don't even like photographs much, so I'm maybe not your typical YouTuber or Spotify video podcaster.

So as I say, it's been a big learning curve! But thank you for all of your positive feedback and your encouragement. That's really helped! It's made me want to carry on. And hopefully I've got better at doing video than I was at the start of this process.

We've grown our library of video podcasts this year

So we've grown our library of video podcasts on YouTube and on Spotify this year.

Our video-based lessons provide audio material with transcripts built-in, with the words flowing on the screen. It's easier to listen with these subtitles and perhaps helps you improve your English even more quickly. We hope that these video-based lessons are helping you to improve your English and improve your fluency and help you move towards your English language learning goals.

This year saw Adept English roll out over a thousand minutes of quality English language learning. That's quite a lot. We are 'prolific', you might say! Prolific, P R O L I F I C. That means we work hard and we give you quite a lot of content! .

Best wishes for 2023!

So I hope you've enjoyed our podcast in 2022. You'll probably find you haven't listened to all of them, so there's always more material to work with.

And as we look forward to 2023, we have some new and exciting things happening.

New things 'coming down the pipeline', and of course we're going to continue expanding our library of video podcasts for you.

Goodbye

So thank you once again for your continued support. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year for 2023. And I look forward to bringing you some more great content in 2023.

Enough for now. Have a lovely day. Speak to you again soon. Goodbye.

Thank you so much for listening. Please help me tell others about this podcast by reviewing or rating it. And, please share it on social media. You can find more listening lessons and a free English course at adeptenglish.com
